Tonight’s episode of American Idol marked the penultimate round for American Idol. We were down to three contestants, Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, and Philip Phillips. All three have spent the whole season turning in incredible performances. How did tonight’s performances go? Let’s see.

Round 1

The first round consisted of songs selected by the judges.

Josh Ledet performed Etta James’s “I’d Rather Be Blind,” and I felt like:

Then Jessica Sanchez performed Mariah Carey’s “My All,” and I was like:

That was followed by Philip Phillips performing Beggin’ by Madcon. It was better than it had any right to be. I felt it like:

Round 2

This round was the performer’s choice.

Joshua Ledet started it off with John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Has this song ever been performed well on this show?

Then Jessica Sanchez did Aerosmith’s “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.” Ugh.

And Philip Phillips did Matchbox 20’s “Disease.” Yeeeeaaaah buddy.

Round 3

This round was Jimmy Iovine’s choice.

Joshua Ledet did Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama.” By the end it was like

Next Jessica Sanchez did the Jackson Five’s “I’ll Be There.” I kept waiting for something amazing like:

Finally Philip Phillips did a Bob Seger song, "We’ve Got Tonight." It was so boring…

It doesn’t matter what happens from here on out. Each of these contestants is probably already in the studio working on an album for Jimmy Iovine.
