The dating website OkCupid selected 526,000 of their users at random and divided them into groups by their (self-stated) race. They then analyzed the profiles and tracked patterns in keywords and mentions to see what white people – and black people – really like. Here are the results:

I have to speak for my fellow black people and say sorry, we’re not all into hip hop, replacing letters with apostrophes, and using “u” and “r” instead of “you” and “are.”

well that’s weird I’m African American and none of these thing’s do I like on the black side, it might have something to do with individual taste. instead of race,

i agree with patrina… im black and i love tom clancy, michael crichton, the coen brothers, offspring, motorcycles, beer, and breaking bad… i don’t like gucci mane, most rap after 2005, this new illiterate trend of using q for g, 50 freaking apostrophies for a 4 letter word, or basketball. i like things from both areas.
kat, i dont think this is racist. they’re trend stats- the things on the black people side are there because a large number of black people submitted them as things they like. how is that racist?? if you polled a large number of women and men and asked what they like shopping for, more women would say shoes than men. that doesn’t make it sexist, nor does it mean that all women are shoe-crazy shopping-fiends. it just means that a lot of women like shoe shopping- which makes sense, because women are the targeted demographic when it comes to shoes.
so this just means that a lot of black people like things that are primarily targeted towards themselves… im not offended in the least. it’s an over-generalization, but eh, what statistics aren’t?

I’m as white as they come and many of my favourite things are on both lists.
Van Halen is my favourite band, Groundhog Day is my favourite movie, so it looked promising at that point. Many of the other things however, I either hate or have never heard of.
As for the black list, I love soul food, I am a big fan of Mos Def (my favourite rapper) and Busta Rhymes, and Xbox 360 is pretty much my life.
It’s almost like people’s personal preferences have little to do with race! Weird…
