“To celebrate independence from religious oppression.”
OK then. Clearly the guy who wrote that was referring to the Puritans, who left England because they weren’t allowed to be as extremely oppressive as they wanted to be. And that isn’t even relevant because that was 150 years prior to the American Revolution and they were still english.

    Fail on so many levels.

@steelcobra You may want to actually learn some history before posting. While the main causes were due to taxes and lack of representation in English gov’t, there was also the fact that that Anglican Church was trying to assert control in the colonies as well. check this out for more info. http://www.earlyamerica.com/review/2003_summer_fall/religious_freedom.htm

Wow, I fill up at that Shell station all the time, it’s in Midland, MI. I’ve never noticed the misspelling though, but that’s probably partially because I almost never drive up from that direction.

“closed for independence day monday, july 5th”. this isn’t funny. it’s pretty evident that the people running the business KNOW when the national holiday is, but were gonna be closed on the business day following the sunday that holiday fell on so people could recuperate from hangovers, etc. just sayin’…

The made in china flag one reminds me of something that happened when i was little. I was like 2 or 3 and my parents took me to a parade for either Memorial Day or 4th of July (sorry my memory’s fuzzy, but I was a toddler then), and they were handing out flags, and my dad saw it was made in china so he took it away and made a big stink of it. I don’t blame him tho. Some things should NOT be made foreignly, and the American flag is one of them.
