“Unsolved Mysteries” was THE MOST terrifying thing I recall being subjected to. My grandma really loved Lifetime.

And Hell. Yes. to Are You Afraid of the Dark.

Yeah, Unsolved Mysteries, if I even heard the music, I would scream. Same with the cryptkeeper! I thought the truck scene in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure was scary, then I saw The Twilight Zone Movie, “You wanna see something really weird?”

Oh, the Dark Crystal and Neverending Story! Now I’m feeling nostalgic….

Can you please tell me the movie that picture 5 is from? I have been trying to find this movie FOREVER! But I can’t remember the name.

Carol – that one is from Dark Crystal.
I’m totally drawing a blank on #2, though it is incredibly familiar.

@BW – DUDE! That’s the Nothing from Neverending Story.

I watched Unsolved Mysteries all the time and it didn’t terrify me but it did creep me out sometimes.

They should add the Wicked Witch of the West…that was what scared me.

    March 15th, 2011

Oh my god. Dead on for every single one. I thought I was the only kid who was completely traumatized by Unsolved Mysteries. Also, thanks a bunch for the picture of Pennywise–I’ll be sleeping with my lights on and avoiding Chinese food for the rest of the month.

The zombie lady coming at the screen in the opening montage for CHILLER THEATER!

  22. Fernando Hernandez
    April 29th, 2011

It’s not visually terrifying, but what about The Brave Little Toaster? Good God, that shit is far too terrifying to be called a kid’s movie. It scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

  23. dadoctah
    May 2nd, 2011

What about He Who Kills from “Trilogy of Terror”? The flying steel sphere from “Phantasm”? That episode of “Night Gallery” with the earwig?

  27. Coralie
    January 26th, 2012

Terrifying! I have one to add and that’s Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? I cried when I saw him, especially at the end!

  28. Ems

The “Thriller” video scared the bajeezus out of me when I was about 4 years old haha. I was flattened against the wall in sheer terror

You know, no matter how old you are, if you don’t think that the demonic possessed clown doll from Poltergeist is freaking terrifying, there’s something very, very wrong with you. And the same goes for the clown from “It!”
Chucky (from Child’s Play) should definitely be on this list. My grandmother gave me a Little Buddy doll for Christmas when I was about 8 or 9. It’s the only time I’ve cried upon opening a gift. I duct-taped it to a chair because I thought it would kill me in my sleep.

  33. Leah

  37. Alyssa

Did anyone else ever watch Ernest Scared Stupid? That scene where the girl rolls over in bed to see the troll thing lying there? Haunted me for AGES.

  43. Stephanie
    February 3rd, 2012

Here’s what scared me as a kid:

-Family members snoring in the other room
-South Park (Kenny chewed a lady’s arm off!)
-Banzai Bills in Super Mario World
-High beam light indicators in cars (look kinda like this: =D)
    -NES cartridges (?!)
-Oddly shaped reflections of light (why is there a < shape on the curtains?!!)
-My grandmother holding a hairbrush (she was brutal when brushing my hair!)

  44. RJ
    February 18th, 2012

Holy shit… i saw the picture of it and it terrified me… my dad never shouldve let me watch that as a nine-year-old.
