#ThrowbackThursday: Song Lyrics You Should NOT Take Literally

Posted by Georgie on January 31, 2013

It’s Throwback Thursday!  So today, we’re going to look at a some songs that you should NOT take life-advice from in any literal way. (Unless you want to get chlamydia.  And die.)

1. “As Long as You Love Me” – The Backstreet Boys.

The lyrics:”I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, don’t care what you did, as long as you love me…”

If you take these lyrics literally:  You will be one of those people who marries a serial killer, and have to have your face blurred out during an interview with “60 Minutes.”

2. “Hit Me Baby, One More Time” – Britney Spears

The lyrics: “Hit me baby, one more time.”

If you take these lyrics literally: You will confuse the idea of getting back together with an ex-lover with domestic violence.  A mistake that will most likely result in incarceration.

3. “Wannabe” – The Spice Girls

The lyrics: “If you wannabe my lover, you gotta get with my friends.”

Taken literally (in a modern-dating-world-sense), these lyrics are enticing you to sleep with your crush’s friends.  That is probably the last thing you want to do if you want to be someone’s lover.  (Unless you’re on reality TV, I think that’s what those kids on Laguna Beach did and it actually seemed to work for them…)

4.   “I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You”- Savage Garden

The lyrics: “I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You.”

If someone says this to you, you should definitely run and call the police.  You have a Class A Stalker who wants to tell you what a pretty mouth you have, Buffalo Bill style.

5. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Def Leppard

The lyrics: “Pour some sugar on me.”

Come on, don’t be an asshole and pour sugar on someone, particularly if they are wet.  No one wants to be a human Fun Dip stick unless they’re on a 90s Nickelodeon Game Show.  (Note: It’s a sexy metaphor.  If someone does ask you to do this, they want you to pour your sex on them.  If they’re wearing what Def Leppard is wearing in the photo above, you should definitely oblige. )

#ModernBonus6. “Give Me Everything” -Pitbull (feat. some other guys)

The lyrics: “Grab somebody sexy tell them, ‘Hey! Give me everything tonight!”

If you take this one literally, just remember: Herpes never goes away :/
