Anne Hathaway Throws Unintentional Shade at Kardashians, Quickly Retracts

Most of us have seen that meme that says “In a world of Kardashians… Be a Helena Bonham Carter.” It seems pretty obvious that the graphic is taking a dig at the Kardashian clan’s overly lavish, stylized, processed lifestyle in favor of Bonham Carter’s bohemian, eccentric existence.

Anne Hathaway, apparently, didn’t get the memo and was surprised by the backlash she received when she shared the meme on Instagram. She is a new mommy so, maybe, those sleepless nights made her miss something so glaring.

In her defense, she seems to have only noticed the Helena Bonham Carter part of the image since she captioned the photo “(Red) Queen,” in reference to her role in the upcoming film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, in which she co-stars with Hathaway. Or maybe the actress was just so focused on shamelessly promoting their movie that she overlooked the Kardashians all together which, in itself, is a little harsh.

The 33-year-old replaced the pictures with an image that simply says: “Post removed for unintended shade thrown.” To further clarify, Hathaway included the caption: “It never occurred to me I was pitting anyone against each other. Not my style. Peace x.”

Followers seemed to respond positively to the move with some referring to her as a “class act.” In the future, let’s hope this situation has taught Hathaway to notice all of the people mentioned in a meme and not just the ones that she likes…
