Kesha Has Dropped Her California Lawsuit Against Dr. Luke

It’s been a tough time for Kesha. After having to seek professional help, the singer came out and accused producer, Dr. Luke, of abusing her over the years and even alleged that he raped her. He, of course, vehemently denied the accusations and things quickly spiraled downward with many celebrities publicly showing their support for Kesha. It’s surprising, therefore, that she has now decided to drop, at least, one of her lawsuits against him.

According to her attorney, Daniel M. Petrocelli: “Kesha has dismissed her California action without prejudice while she pursues her appeal and other legal claims in the New York courts. Kesha is focused on getting back to work and has delivered 28 new songs to the record label. We have conveyed to Sony Music and the label Kesha’s strong desire to release her next album and single as soon as possible.”

Fans on Instagram got a more personal statement from Kesha which reads: “My fight continues. I need to get my music out. I have so much to say. This lawsuit is so heavy on my once free spirit, and I can only pray to one day feel that happiness again. I am continuing to fight for my rights in New York. Thank you for all your support. The support of my fans has been so beautiful and I’m so grateful for it. I’m not sure where I would be without you all.”

Naturally, the legal team for Dr. Luke charged that Kesha’s decision to withdraw the case was a sign that she was going to lose. One attorney, Christine Lepera, said: “If Kesha is voluntarily dismissing her claims in the California case, it is because she has no chance of winning them. Earlier this year, she lost her meritless counterclaims against Dr. Luke in the New York Action. Recently, the California Court invited Dr. Luke and the other defendants to move to dismiss Kesha’s claims in that action. Kesha should never have brought her false and meritless claims against Dr. Luke in any court. Dr. Luke’s defamation and other claims against Kesha are still proceeding.”

While we cannot comment on whether Kesha’s claims are true, it is becoming more well-known that rape survivors often drop their lawsuits and criminal charges because the process is so negative. It’s not surprising, at all, that she has chosen not to go through with the case. Too often, even if the accused is found guilty of the attack, their punishment is insulting, at best.

In the meantime, Kesha has announced that she’s going to be going on tour during the month of August which is a big deal considering the fact that she hasn’t released an album since her 2012 effort, Warrior.

If nothing else, fans and celebrities alike have shown how much they love and support Kesha and, hopefully, that has to count for something.
