Matt Lauer Has Been on the Air 20 Years Too Long
Matt Lauer has celebrated his 20th anniversary of being a host on the Today show. Honestly, when he first started out, he did relatively well but his approval rating and likeability have drastically declined over the years and it’s shocking that he’s still on the airwaves.
Of course, NBC went all out to mark the occasion and even his co-host, Savannah Guthrie, crawled out of her house and left her newborn, Charley (she’s on maternity leave), to participate in the festivities.
Even he seemed shocked at her devotion, asking her what she was doing there. People at home were wondering the same thing but Guthrie claimed she “couldn’t miss it.”
I bet. Maybe the head honchos at NBC made her an offer she could not refuse in order to support Lauer publicly. After all of the drama that went down between Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, can we really blame them?
Even his first co-host, Katie Couric, showed up and said: “So many high points and so many low points. I’m just so excited to celebrate you.”
What? They didn’t invite Ann Curry? The reputable journalist had an illustrious career before sitting next to Lauer who, many suggest, had her fired. Who can forget her tear-filled farewell and how awkward that whole ordeal was?
It’s clear that Today is sticking with this failing formula so here’s to another 20 years of hating Matt Lauer every single morning. Sigh…
