Did Oprah Join 60 Minutes to Lead Resistance?
It’s been an increasingly rough time for the press over the past few weeks with people having less and less trust in the media. With accusations of the rampant spread of “fake news,” many have been left wondering where they can find real information.
It’s been years since Oprah Winfrey last hosted her syndicated talk show but she has been doing things on her OWN network from time to time. It’s been announced, however, that she is going to be returning to her journalism roots and many across the internet have been speculating about the reasons for this decision.
Oprah will be joining CBS’ 60 Minutes as a special contributor this fall and, really, we almost wish she was starting tomorrow. These are such stressful times but, hopefully, by the time she starts, things will be a little less turbulent. Either way, it might be nice to have someone helping people navigate these crazy waters.
In a statement, Winfrey said: “I’m so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling. At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds.”
To add credence to her words, 60 Minutes executive producer, Jeff Fager, added: “There is only one Oprah Winfrey. She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life. She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for 60 Minutes.”
With everything being so crazy these days, it’s likely that many people will be happy to see her familiar face on their television screens!
