Tamron Hall’s Departure from the Today Show is Messy
Kelly Ripa’s frustration at being blindsided by Michael Strahan’s departure seems like small potatoes next to the fiasco unfolding over at the Today show. Really, they should be completely ashamed of themselves.
Tamron Hall has been hosting Today’s third hour with Al Roker and they have been killing it. In fact, they’ve been the top-rated hosts of that hour for almost two months. Despite this, the execs at NBC decided to pull a fast one.
It was a shock when Megyn Kelly announced that she was leaving Fox News and people quickly began wondering where she was going to go. Unfortunately for Hall, it seems like the network has decided that Kelly needs to take over an entire hour on Today.
It has now been announced that Hall will be leaving all areas of the network including the Today show, NBC News, and MSNBC! Apparently, her contract was set to expire this month and, while they try to keep her, she decided to move on.
As one source explained: “She was offered a lot of money to stay … and she turned it down. She doesn’t currently have another offer, but her contract was up. And they offered her a new deal… Insiders are surprised that she left.”
While onlookers say that Hall’s demeanor on-set never changed and that she remained professional as rumors swirled, even pitching in wherever she was needed.
The source continued: “Tamron has been anchoring all over the network in the past few weeks, filling in for Savannah Guthrie and for Lester Holt in addition to MSNBC and just a few days ago, she received an email from the executive producer congratulating the 9 a.m. team for being No. 1 for the last seven weeks. Then on Friday, minutes before going on MSNBC they told her that she and Al are being taken off the air.”
Tamron Hall joined MSNBC and NBC in 2007 and was made a co-anchor on Today’s Take alongside Roker in 2014. Viewers seemed to really adore her and fans have been vocal on social media throughout this debacle.
Hall kept it classy and released a simple, upbeat statement: “The last 10 years have been beyond anything I could have imagined, and I’m grateful. I’m also very excited about the next chapter. To all my great colleagues, I will miss you and I will be rooting for you.”
And we are rooting for you, Tamron Hall! Megyn Kelly has some big shoes to fill.
