Can We Please Stop Trying to Make Rihanna an Actress?
Rihanna is a singer and, really, she’s barely passable at that, sometimes. Still, when you listen to her earlier songs like “S.O.S,” you can hear an improvement. Over the years, she’s definitely tried to reinvent herself and became noticeably darker/more serious after the world discovered that she had been beaten by Chris Brown.
While we want to support someone who has survived domestic violence (even though she went back to her abuser for a time), it’s growing increasingly difficult to deal with Rihanna being cast in serious acting roles. Honestly, she barely sells her performances in her own music videos.
Battleship (2012) was absolutely awful. She was barely tolerable in This is the End (2013) and she was playing herself! She’s slated to appear in the upcoming Ocean’s Eight (2018) movie and, now, she’s also on Bates Motel.
This week, she made her debut on the A&E series and they’ve cast her in the role of Marion Crane. You know, probably the most iconic character from the Psycho movie which was masterfully brought to life by Janet Leigh. This is so annoying.
The 29-year-old entertainer is part of Bates Motel’s fifth and final season and, really, they deserve to shut down after making this casting decision.
Don’t get us wrong, some people really can straddle multiple areas of the industry – Rihanna is not one of them!
