A deadly fire claimed the lives of, at least, 17 people and injured more than 70 at London’s Grenfell Tower apartment building. There were reports of parents throwing children from the inferno as more than 250 firefighters struggled to get it under control.

Onlookers snapped shots of superstar, Adele, at the site with her husband, Simon Konecki. According to reports, she hugged people and asked if anyone needed help and she paid an emotional visit to the scene.

The singer took to Twitter to say: “Shocked and devastated to hear this terrible news. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy in West London.”

“In my 29 years of being a firefighter, I have never, ever seen anything of this scale,” London Fire Brigade Commissioner Dany Cotton said of the blaze. “This is a major fire that’s affected all floors of the 24-story structure from the second floor upwards.”

The incident has been called “corporate manslaughter” by Labour MP David Lammy who feels that “there should be arrests made.” Referring to the condition of apartment buildings, even in this “richest borough,” Lammy added: “They haven’t got easy fire escapes, they’ve got no sprinklers, it’s totally, totally unacceptable in Britain that this is allowed to happen and people lose their lives in this way. People should be held to account.”

Our hearts go out to all affected by this tragedy.
