The Bachelor Announced: Arie Luyendyk is Back!

What in the heck is ABC doing now? Honestly, I get their dilemma. They couldn’t use anyone from Rachel Lindsay’s season because almost everyone sucked and they couldn’t go with Nick Viall because that dude has had WAY too many chances already. So, instead of trying to find some fresh meat, they went way back into the archives for Arie Luyendyk, Jr. who appeared on Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette.

Does this 35-year-old really have what it takes to be interesting for a whole season as the Bachelor? Meh. Anyone who watched Emily’s season, though, probably remembers his weird family so that should be interesting!

During an interview with People, Luyendyk Jr. said, “This is pretty surreal. It doesn’t really feel real yet, but I’m taking it step by step. The timing is just so perfect in my life. I could not be more excited for this journey I’m about to embark on.”

The professional race car driver has become a real estate agent and feels like he’s ready to find love. “I’m not nervous,” he admits. “Now that I’ve had some time and distance away from it, it feels like the feeling I had before I went into it the first time. I think sometimes when you’re on The Bachelorette and you jump right into being the Bachelor, for me it would’ve been too soon. This feels more natural. I’m not concerned what people think. I’m just focused on the outcome. I want to find my person and will do whatever it takes!”

Apparently, after Lindsay’s season, produxers were in “a full-blown panic” trying to figure out who to pick as The Bachelor since runner-up, Peter Kraus, seemed like a flawed choice. If you believe Luyendyk Jr., though, this has been in the making for a while. “It’s been an ongoing conversation through the last couple of years,” he says. “The timing was never right.”

In fact, if you believe Sean Lowe (former Bachelor and Bachelorette star who appeared on the same season as Luyendyk Jr.), the producers wanted him instead of Chris Soules. He explained, “from what I understand, the show, the producers that make the show, they wanted Arie… They actually told Arie he was gonna be the Bachelor. They flew [him] down, had a camera crew, filmed him telling his family he was gonna be the next Bachelor – then pulled the rug out from underneath him and made Chris the Bachelor.”

Lowe says that new producers had been worried that Luyendyk hadn’t been on television in two years and were concerned that he wouldn’t be able to connect with viewers. Well, guess what? They were finally desperate enough to take a chance!

As for our new bachelor, he says, “I just want to find that spark with somebody. I want to someone to share my life with. I feel like it’s my time. I’m going into this with an open heart.”

Buckle up, Bachelor Nation! It’s probably going to be a bumpy ride!
