Hugh Hefner Dies at Home Surrounded by Loved Ones
People are pretty shocked by the passing of Hugh Hefner. According to reports, the 91-year-old was surrounded by loved ones as he “peacefully passed away today from natural causes at his home.”
Most famous for founding Playboy magazine, Hefner became even more of a cultural icon when he appeared on the reality series, The Girls Next Door, alongside his three girlfriends, Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson.
Hef was married three times – once in 1949 to Mildred Williams and again in 1989 to Playmate of the Year, Kimberley Conrad – and was a father to four children, Christie and David (with Williams) and Marston and Cooper (with Conrad).
His third marriage was a little complicated. He became engaged to Crystal Harris in 2010 but she called things off just five days before the wedding. After an ugly custody battle over their dog, the couple managed to patch things up and eventually married in 2012.
A self-made millionaire, Hefner came up with the idea for Playboy while working as a copy editor for Esquire back in 1952. By the end of 1953, he had Marilyn Monroe gracing his magazine’s very first cover. Talk about making a dream come true!
Over the years, he added other forms of media and gentleman’s clubs to his portfolio and helped make Playboy one of the most recognizable brands in the world.
Love him or hate him, he was a genius and a pioneer. May he rest in peace.
